About This Place

Located in the South Land Park area of Sacramento, Macau Café offers an inviting taste of authentic Cantonese cuisine with a menu that brilliantly blends traditional flavors and comforting favorites. This Chinese restaurant is known for its generous portions and a diverse array of dishes that showcase both fresh ingredients and bold, satisfying tastes.

Step into Macau Café’s intimate and clean dining space where the atmosphere is unpretentious yet welcoming — a perfect setting for family meals, casual dinners, or even takeout for those cozy nights in. The friendly service is generally quick, making it a convenient spot for both leisurely dining and grabbing a hearty lunch.

The menu is a treasure trove for those who appreciate classic Cantonese staples and innovative twists alike. For starters, their shrimp dumplings come highly recommended, praised for their authenticity and flavor. Fans of tofu will find the MA Pao Tofu richly satisfying, with a gentle spice balance that warms the palate without overwhelming. Crisp textures meet tender flavors in standout appetizers like Salt and Pepper Fried Chicken Wings and Crispy Pork, which despite being deep-fried rather than roasted, deliver a delightful crunch and savory depth.

Rice lovers can indulge in aromatic and expertly fried dishes such as the Dried Scallop Fried Rice, the ever-popular Yangzhou Fried Rice studded with shrimp and BBQ pork, or the unique Salmon Fried Rice with Peanuts that offers a satisfying combination of smoky and nutty notes. Don’t miss the House Special Chow Fun or the stir-fried udon with seafood, both of which highlight Macau Café’s skillful handling of noodles—perfectly chewy and infused with rich flavors from the wok.

Complement your meal with refreshing beverages like the specially curated Hong Kong Style Lemon Ice Tea or the creamy, velvety Avocado Milk Shake, which provide a satisfying contrast to the savory dishes. The restaurant also offers an impressive array of hand-made frozen dumplings, allowing you to bring the experience home and savor the flavors at your convenience.

While a few dishes like the pan-fried pot stickers don't always hit the mark, Macau Café’s consistency shines in the variety and freshness of most offerings. They balance traditional Cantonese authenticity with approachable flavors that appeal to a broad audience, making it a local favorite. The reasonable pricing and family-friendly meal specials further enhance its appeal as a go-to spot for both casual dining and special gatherings.

In all, Macau Café embraces its role as a dependable neighborhood gem, delivering hearty, flavorsome Chinese cuisine with warmth and honesty. Whether you're in the mood for the comforting zest of Kung Pao Chicken, the delicate sweetness of Sticky Rice, or the satisfying savor of Honey BBQ Pork, Macau Café invites you to indulge in a culinary journey that feels both familiar and exciting.

Why do the serve spaghetti at a Chinese restaurant? It taste good though. Smothered in cheese. I think the sauce is sweet and sour sauce. Happy hour drinks take forever to prepare and service needs work. Minus one star. Try the giant pork leg too.

The crispy pork isn’t roasted, it’s deep fried, I’d give id dock it one star for that so 4 stars for that dish. Same for the mapo tofu, it was good, I wouldn’t caution from trying it, but it is slightly sweet and barely spicy at all. I know it’s a mild spicy dish but this was still mild. I also got the scallion pancakes, everything was yummy. 4/5 star no drama.

Lots of easy parking and well priced foods. Macau also has 3 dish specials for about $35 that good for a family meal, and daily lunch specials that include drinks. Nothing fancy but the food is a local favorite.

I used to go here many years ago with my mother. Hadn't been here in over a decade. The atmosphere is still the same. It's intimate and clean. The food is fresh and yummy. I wouldn't recommend the pan fried pot stickers. I believe they were previously Frozen. I did order their $7.99 special of chicken and vegetables over steamed rice which was really good. I ordered one to take home because the vegetables and chicken were so fresh and flavorful. The portion sizes are large. I like the diversity of the menu and that many of the dishes are traditional Chinese dishes that you could not get at American styles Chinese restaurants.

Been going here for years. The thousand island tofu is really good. Every time we come we order a new item as there are many to choose from. The scallion pancakes and sesame chicken were both very good. Good service and quiet atmosphere. Good for take out or for dining in.
